In 1972 the Balaklava and District Historical society was formed and in 1975 it became a branch of the National Trust of South Australia. Early in 2004 the Balaklava group severed it's connection with the National Trust to become "Balaklava Museum Inc"

Now owned by the Wakefield Regional Coincil the maintenance and running of the Museum has been entrusted to the members of Balaklava Museum Inc.
